Kevin Smith

I saw Kevin Smith yesterday.  Anyone who knows me wouldn't be surprised to hear that.  This was probably the 8th or 9th time I've seen him in person.  That puts him on par with the amount of times I've seen Sheryl Crow on stage.  Again, anyone who knows me knows that is no small feat.

Last night's show was seen with Jen. It was a pleasure going with Jen & I thank her for paying the big bucks to go with me, even if she wasn't sure she'd see him in person (a little inside joke).  It seems every time I see Kevin Smith live I do so with a new person.  I'm really lucky that I have such great friends with such great taste or else I'd be attending a lot of these shows alone.

Last night's show was little different than what I'm used to.  Here's a bit of history on the shows I've seen.  The first few times I saw Kevin Smith it was a strictly Q & A format.  Then there was the Zack & Miri premiere at TIFF, a few more Q & A's, meeting Mr. Smith & Mr. Mewes at the radio station, and then seeing Red State with a Q & A afterward.  This time it was in a movie theatre but there was no movie.  Instead it was a a podcast & then a quick fire Q & A.   Usually Mr. Smith takes questions & then rambles on in answers that can last up to an hour (as anyone who has ever seen his "An Evening With" DVDs knows) but the pod cast wasn't interactive & then the question & answer period went back & forth between twitter questions & live ones.  It was also different from other shows I've been to b/c it was a live broadcast to theatres across the US.

The pod cast wasn't really my cup of tea.  It was basically Kevin & Jay discussing sex.  Sex between animals (turles, tortoises, dogs, & hamsters), sex between themselves, sexual techniques, sexual demonstrations,  and finally, discussions of sex between their wives & themselves.  I missed the interaction, I missed their reactions to the audience but I was mere minutes away from the Q & A so I was still a happy girl.

The Q & A was different from any other I had been to.  Mr. Smith was determined to get through as many questions as he could so he kept his answers fairly short & sweet.  Being the gracious Canadian hosts that we are 1/2 of all the questions asked were accompanied by a gift of some sort for the hosts of the show.

Here's the fun stuff I learned at last night's show . . . Jason has produced a Jay & Silent Bob cartoon set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Fest this year.  Kevin & Jason intend to tour with the movie once it is done at TIFF.  Since I've spent a lof of money seeing Mr. Smith in the past I had decided that this was to be my last visit with Mr. Smith, at least until I had a job with a means of PAYING for the tickets.  However, if said movie does get toured by the duo I find it hard to believe that I will find the will power to stay away . . . DANG IT, foiled again!  Kevin is nearing completion of his script for his final movie, Hit Somebody.  A movie he says is his love letter to Canada & our national pasttime, hockey.  Woo hoo & so sad!  After Hit Somebody has finished touring & being shown at unique arenas (sounds promising) Mr. Smith will begin to promote independant filmmaker's movies & tour with them to showcase each film.  Hmmm . . .  what else did I learn . . . um when the power goes out Kevin & Jay are not at a loss for words, even if you can barely hear them.  Yeah, you read that right.  The power went out more than once lol.

It was fun.  Jen was a blast to go with.  I adore Kevin Smith.

xoxo
